Seed, Mulch and Soil Work for Loess Country
Hydroseeding Memphis sprays new lawns, stabilizes slopes and handles the soil prep and sediment control that go with them, for homeowners, builders and property managers across Memphis and the surrounding Mid-South towns.
Most of the uplands around the city are loess: wind-blown silt that the USDA describes in the Memphis soil series as very deep, well drained silt loam with medium to very high runoff. It grows good grass when it is covered and washes fast when it is not. Pair that with almost 55 inches of rain a year and frequent spring thunderstorms, and you have the reason a bare yard here turns into a gully and a muddy street in a single storm.
Hydroseeding fits that problem. Seed, fertilizer and wood fiber mulch go down in one wet layer that sticks to the soil and holds it while the grass comes up. On steeper banks we add erosion control blankets or a heavier hydromulch, and on construction lots we set silt fence and inlet protection so the dirt stays on the property.
Our routine on a Mid-South job
- No number until we have stood on the ground and checked slope, drainage, shade and how far the hose has to reach
- The quote you get in writing spells out the square footage, the seed mix and the mulch rate
- We test or check the soil when the color or growth suggests it needs lime or topsoil
- Grading and topsoil come first; seed goes on a finished, firmed surface, not on clods
- Warm-season grass is sprayed into warm soil, cool-season grass in the early fall window
- On jobs with silt fence, we install it before the soil is disturbed and leave it until the grass is established
- Every new lawn gets a written watering and first-mowing plan
We do not do weekly mowing or chemical lawn programs. We focus on getting ground covered, growing and stable, then hand it back to you or your lawn service.
