A city built around a lake
Hydroseeding in Lakeland, TN
Higher ground, a namesake lake and old commercial sites becoming new uses.
- We walk every site before quoting, and the quote comes in writing
- Grass picked for how much sun, shade and season your yard actually gets
- A watering plan left with every new lawn
Lawns Above the Lake
Hydroseeding in Lakeland calls for a little more caution near water than most suburbs. The city was originally built around the lake now called Garner Lake, the former centerpiece of the Lakeland Amusement Park, and about 0.4 square miles of the city is water. Lawns that slope toward a lake or pond can send soil and fertilizer straight into it if the ground is left bare after grading.
Keeping soil out of the water
On lakeside lots we keep the seeded area protected from the first day: a hydromulch with tackifier on gentle slopes, erosion control blankets on steeper banks, and a silt fence or similar barrier near the shoreline until the grass is thick. We also keep fertilizer away from the water's edge.
Higher than most of the county
Lakeland sits at about 397 feet, higher than Memphis at 338 feet. Higher, rolling ground means more yards with real grade changes. Backyards that fall off steeply benefit from a bonded fiber matrix or blankets rather than seed and straw alone.
Redevelopment sites
The Lakeland Factory Outlet Mall closed around 2011, and the property was later targeted for redevelopment. Large sites like that go through demolition, grading and long waits between phases. Temporary hydroseeding on graded but unbuilt ground keeps dust and runoff down until construction picks back up.
An older population, established yards
Lakeland's median age was 40.2 in 2020, older than many neighboring suburbs. Plenty of our work here is renovating mature lawns, overseeding thin areas and repairing yards after landscaping or drainage projects.

Lakeland Questions
Can I fertilize a new lawn that runs down to the lake?
We keep starter fertilizer back from the shoreline and use a vegetated or mulched buffer at the water's edge.
How do you seed a steep backyard in Lakeland?
With a heavier mulch such as bonded fiber matrix, or with straw erosion control blankets pinned over the seed.
Can you put temporary seed on a graded commercial site?
Yes. A quick cover crop or hydromulch keeps dust and runoff under control until building starts.
My lawn is old and patchy. Is renovation worth it?
If the soil is reasonable and the patches are mostly from wear or shade, aeration and overseeding may be enough. Very weedy or bare lawns do better with a full renovation.
